BioDeepali Kapatkar is an impressionist painter and works primarily in oils and pastels. She paints both ‘en plein air’ and in studio from photographs that she takes during her travels. She likes to tell ‘colorful’ stories of everyday life through her paintings and photographs. Deepali has a formal degree in Architecture and Interior Design. Her fascination with the play of light on shapes, tactile beauty of different textures, and vibrancy of color translated seamlessly in the pursuit of her career as an Architect and Interior Designer during her two year sojourn in India. While in India, she had the opportunity to see the artwork of some of the famous and accomplished contemporary Indian artists. Their artwork inspired her and kindled her desire to paint seriously. Although it was very daunting to paint ‘en plein air’ and finish a painting ‘alla prima’, she quickly learned to enjoy it and became passionate about it. Deepali is an award winning artist and has been juried into various shows across the Bay Area and the Nation. She is an associate member of the California Art Club, The Pastel Society of West Coast, the Northwest Pastel Society and a Signature member of the Society of West-Coast Artists. Her artwork can be found in private collections both in the US and her native India.
